JUNIOR COMPETITION FRIDAY JULY 9 2010

Over the past 2 days a   large  number of requests to reschedule games have come forward to the associaiton  from clubs due to a high number of representative players involved in state titles and school holidays.  In addition to this we have players from three clubs competing in the southern skies tournament in Brisbane.  The table below indicates which requests have been met. Whilst the association acknowledges that our representative players can make the trip back in time to compete in most games, it is not a situation it wishes to place it's representative players in. Many are fatigued and some carrying injuries. Most representative players also play in the under 18 competition and we do not wish to place them in this situation out of "duty of care." Team lists have been perused and exact numbers of players affected taken into consideration when making decisions.  If any coach or junior coordinator has any concerns please don't hesitate to contact me direct.

The games noted for rescheduling will need to be played within 3 weeks. The day and time should be negotiated between the coaches of both teams then the agreed date passed onto the office administrator. For turf availabilty please contact the office and Labrador Hockey Club.

State Championship Team - U18 Women

Congratulations champion team

What an amazing achievement to win the state U/18 title against a very strong opponent in Townsville on their home turf. Testament that home crowds don’t win you titles – preparation, discipline and work rate do. You are now back to back state champions for under 18 women and some history has been made.

You have been undefeated for two years – not two minutes. Our team(s) keeps winning and there is a reason for that – more comprehensive and consistent training, individual work rate, and a disciplined and respectful culture .

Whilst the tournament is about the team it is important to acknowledge the state selections that are a product of a good team performance. Congratulations to Tayla Hayes, Maddy James, Emma Dick and Brooke Anderson on your QLD squad selection – very deserving selections.

To your two captains, Jamie and Eleanor, thanks for your leadership in your final year of under - age competition. What a great way to end it!

You have all done us very proud.............Well Done!!

26th July, 2011

Ms Carol Sheridan

International Coordinator

Women's Masters Committee

Dear Carol,

I am writing on behalf of Hockey Australia to congratulate all involved in the planning and delivery of the recently completed Women's Masters Tournament on the Gold Coast.

Conducting an event over five age groups and three nations takes a significant amount of effort and expertise. The feedback suggests that the quality of both the competition and associated functions was high. Congratulations to you personally for your key role in coordinating this significant event. Just as importantly, we are very aware of the critical role that volunteers play in delivering an event of this size.

Would you please pass on my congratulations to all involved in delivering this tournament. Volunteers are a critical element of our sport. We appreciate the efforts of every volunteer who provided their time to deliver both the on?]field and off?]field components of this tournament so successfully.

With the Gold Coast bidding to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, an event involving large numbers of participants from three Commonwealth nations was an excellent way to showcase our sport. We all trust that this is the first of many significant hockey tournaments held in the region in the run up to the Commonwealth Games should the bid be successful.

Once again, congratulations to all of the team involved in delivering a successful tournament.

Kind Regards

Mark Anderson

Women's Masters International Invitational Hockey Tournament

Gold Coast Hockey Association in conjunction with Hockey Australia host the inaugural Women's Masters International Invitational Hockey Tournament from 17 to 22 July 2011. Australian teams were selected at the National Championships in October 2010 and will travel from all over Australia for the event to commence team training on the Wednesday prior. The tournament will be played under Federation of International Hockey rules with teams from Australia, New Zealand and England competing in five age groups from Over 35s to Over 55s.

The event will be officially opened by His Worship, the Mayor, Ron Clarke at the hockey centre on Saturday 16 July at 6pm. The week looks to be very busy both on field and off with the Mayor hosting a civic reception for our international visitors at the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame during the week, and finishing up on Friday evening with a Gala Dinner at Sharks AFL Club.

Canteen and bar facilities are available for visitors and supporters at the hockey centre, and merchandise will be on sale with Just Hockey.
